((For none of us can ever express the exact measure of his needs or his thoughts or his sorrows, and human speech is like a cracked kettle on which we tap crude rhythms for bears to dance to, while we long to make music that will melt the stars.)) Flaubert!

Afraid of life after MFA because I’m afraid of life before it. But I met a Brazilian man today who, with no prompting from myself, put his hand on his heart, sighed, and said “Clarice Lispector is a very special woman to us in Brazil. She should be to everyone.” He didn’t know my entire thesis rests on her shoulders, half of my fiction indebted to her own.

“If I want to, even now after everything that has happened is over, I can still keep myself from having seen. And then I shall never know about the truth I am trying to go through again - it still depends on me.”

“You’ll need coffee shops and sunsets and road trips. Airplanes and passports and new songs and old songs, but people more than anything else. You will need other people and you will need to be that other person to someone else, a living breathing screaming invitation to believe better things.”
